This year's Apple Blossom was extra special for our family because my mom was the director general for the festival. This was a huge honor and one that had been many years in the making but offically a 3-4 year process. My mom's theme (she got to pick it) was Walking on Sunshine and the entire festival was such a success.
One of my favorite parts was that I was invited to several functions that I normally wouldn't have been able to go to. The All-Service luncheon was a highlight for me. The guest speaker was a former Navy SEAL and probably one of the best speakers I've ever heard in person. He held the audience captive (not literally) for over an hour with stories of his training and combat as well as stories about serious life lessons - incredible! If you ever get a chance to hear Jeff Bramstedt speak - it is worth the effort. You'll leave a changed person.
I was also able to attend the revealing of the Apple Blossom art print (drawn by my great-aunt) and of course the grand parade. Graham loved the parade and was so focused on all the bands - especially the drums.
When my mom and dad went by we all stood and cheered. It was so fun. And as a big surprise my mom's close friends walked behind her car for a bit carrying a fun sign. If you at all know my mom it makes perfect sense :)

p.s. As a side note, my brother was in charge of the first annual beer garden at Memorial Park this year. And he won the committee of the year award at the end of the year banquet! Both Haley's were a success :)
