Blogging for Books-Praying for Your Future Husband

Praying for Your Future Husband is a book that will both motivate and encourage any girl who is dreaming of her future husband, to begin praying for that man.

Authors Robin Jones Gunn & Tricia Goyer have written a book that shows the power of prayer based on their experiences. Each chapter is carefully designed to cover what is truly important when praying for a future husband. A few examples of their topics show what is most valuable in a man: that he would have a “clean” Heart, that he would be a God-Lover, that he would have Patience, that he would be Understanding, that he would be Trustworthy, and show Loyalty & Faithfulness. I like that the authors got right down to what matters most - “You marry the heart, not the hair” (pg 106).

Their focus was also about getting your own heart right with God. One of my favorite parts about Praying for Your Future Husband is that it isn’t a book just for those who have stayed emotionally or physically pure, but is written for a girl with any background or at any stage of her life. Those girls that are struggling with saving themselves for marriage or those who are struggling with loneliness as they wait on the Lord to bring “The One,” will find that this book ministers to them as well as those girls who are just beginning the journey. This book provides motivation to start now, no matter your past, and get right with God. We all dream of living a righteous life.

Praying for Your Future Husband addresses issues like worry. Many girls worry about their future. In the beginning the worry might be about being the only girl in school who hasn’t gone on a date, to then worrying that there aren’t any good men left out there. The worry might also be that because of the mistakes you’ve made, there won’t be a God-Loving Man who will love you. But this book asks you to place that worry at God’s feet – to completely release that burden of searching for your future husband and turn it over the Lord: “Are you worried? Sometimes you may not realize you are…Maybe you have been striving for a boyfriend because you’re worried that you’ll be alone or that others will make fun of you, or that you’re unlovable. Worry is the opposite of trust. Take out a piece of paper, and write out all those worries…Now, take your list and hold it before God. Read over those things, and consider what Jesus would say if you could see Him by your side and hear Him. What does He want you to do? He wants you to trust” (pg 82).

At the end of each chapter are discussion questions and a place for journaling. Their questions are a perfect conclusion to each chapter because they get the reader focused on certain topics that when discussed & taken to heart, can be live-changing.

Praying for Your Future Husband also encouraged me to start right now praying for my kid’s future spouse. Even though I read this book as a married woman, I was still blessed by it. I found encouragement in their words on how to pray for my own husband and how to possibly minister to those who are still searching.

This book is well written and appropriate for all ages. It is not the least bit corny or silly. Gunn & Goyer take a very important topic and break it down into useful steps. In the beginning I thought this book might be written for just “tweens” or teenagers, but as I began to read I realized that it was written for any single girl – no matter her age – who wants the Lord to bless her with an Amazing God-Loving Man. Praying for Your Future Husband gives practical advice that can provide a priceless result.
